Bellampalli is known and famous for its extensive Singareni Collieries coal mines. It has the highest number of coal and opencast mines in Telangana. The first mine was opened in 1936 by the British government. The town grew rapidly as more mines were discovered and excavated.
Today, SCCL’s coal supports NTPC Ramagundam and major industries in Devapur, Visakhapatnam, and Maharashtra.
Bellampalli, designated as Constituency No. 3 in the Telangana Legislative Assembly, lies within Mancherial district and forms one of the seven segments of the Peddapalli Lok Sabha constituency. Established in 2008 and reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, it serves around 137,893 electors across South India's Telangana region. The current Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) is Gaddam Vinod from the Indian National Congress (INC), who secured victory in the 2023 elections with 82,217 votes.
The assembly constituency currently includes the following Mandals: Bellampalli, Bheemini, Kasipet, Nennal, Vemanpalle, Tandur, and Kannepally.
Geographally, the region lies within the Bellampalli Coal Belt of the Godavari Valley Coalfield, featuring Permian Gondwana sediments in an intracratonic rift basin. Coal-rich Barakar Formation layers are overlain by younger deposits. The NW-SE basin structure reflects tectonic subsidence and fluvial-deltaic settings, with Archean basement affecting heat flow near Bellampalli.
